About Dr. Carlsen

Andrea Carlsen, MD, is a board-certified psychiatrist specializing in the treatment of mood and anxiety disorders. She provides multidisciplinary treatment plans for a variety of mental health concerns to adults and teenagers at North Shore TMS in Huntington, New York, where she serves as medical director.

Dr. Carlsen has extensive experience treating children, adolescents, and adults using innovative, evidence-based therapies. She was one of the first psychiatrists to make transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) therapy available on Long Island, and she continues to expand her knowledge and skills to provide personalized solutions for a wide range of mental health conditions, including depression, anxiety, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).

After receiving her Bachelor of Arts in English literature from Bryn Mawr College in Pennsylvania, Dr. Carlsen earned her Doctorate of Medicine from Vanderbilt University School of Medicine in Nashville, Tennessee. She served as chief resident during her residency in adult psychiatry at Duke University Medical Center in Durham, North Carolina.

Dr. Carlsen went on to complete fellowship training in pediatric and adolescent psychiatry at Brown University’s Rhode Island Hospital in Providence. During her fellowship, she received the honor of a peer service award. Dr. Carlsen also has advanced training in functional medicine and integrative psychiatry.

Dr. Carlsen serves as voluntary faculty at Northwell Health System in New York, teaching in the departments of psychiatry and pediatrics. She is certified in both adult and child and adolescent psychiatry by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology.
